First, let me start by saying: Fuck. This movie...just stop reading and go now and check this movie out. I haven't seen the original to compare, but this movie makes me want to go out and do so.
For those of you who need more persuasion, let me quickly talk about some of the big names in this all-star cast:
- George Clooney: he's Daniel Ocean, and the 11 consist of himself and his recruits for a huge heist. His performance is great - top notch. If you liked him in Three Kings, you'll love him in this.
- Brad Pitt: the man is a phenomenal actor. The on-screen chemistry between him and Clooney makes for some great scenes where they just play off of each other. As far as I'm concerned, he's the star of this flick.
- Julia Roberts: Ocean's ex-wife, Tess. Now, I'm not a Julia Roberts fan (are you surprised?) but her performance wasn't that bad either. She doesn't have much screen time compared to Ocean's gang, so this isn't the flick to see if you're just going to see her.
- Andy Garcia: The "bad guy" in this flick. It's his casinos (yeah, plural. they hit three at once) they are robbing from. He played his part well, though he didn't have much of a chance to shine since the spotlight wasn't on him. Then again, Garcia has plenty of movies where he shines.
- Matt Damon: Another one of the 11, he's a kid from Chicago. While there's not much spotlight on him, he had a few good lines and a hilarious scene with Bernie Mac (another of Ocean's 11).
I do have a couple beefs with the movie though, mainly with Julia Roberts' character. I don't know if it's just how she portrayed Tess or if it's part of the character, but I don't see any chemistry between them and she seems too damn perfect to marry a guy like Ocean. That bit does seem somewhat contrived, as does some of the other scenes involving her. There's a couple little "what the hell?" issues, but I don't want to give the movie away.
Ocean's Eleven is pulled off brilliantly. Two hours of fun, especially if you're a Clooney or Pitt fan since they steal the show.
